Aug 20,  · Dion DiMucci had it in with the dynamic “King of the New York Streets.” Willie had the aggressive edge of Reed, but he wasn’t artistically quite as intense. There were few direct links to heavy drugs & Venus in furs-references. Nile wisely had a good grasp of subterranean cool & walking the metropolitan tight rope.

Streets Of New York is a unmitigated triumph. An album whose lyrics intrigue and captivate, whose music transports you to a place you think you know but realise is still a mystery. When the title track comes to an end you immediately want to replay the whole album again, while at the same time wondering whether Nile's other albums could in any way measure up.

When this album was released in amazingly it had been 25 years since the release of his debut album. Since then WILLIE has released a studio set, a live album and a DVD and even done the odd show STREETS OF NEW YORK was heaped with critical praise on it's release, 4 stars in UNCUT and THE WORD amongst others the likes of BONO, LOU REED, GRAHAM PARKER and LUCINDA WILLIAMS /5(41).
